STRENGTHS: Footy IQ, class, marking, versatility, kicking
IMPROVEMENTS: Accumulation, offensive drive
A team-first defender, Tyler Martin is the type of player who peels off his opponent to impact another contest and help out a teammate. He has the footy IQ and class to be able to make good decisions with or without the ball, and has shown he can play forward. During the National Under 18 Championships, all the notes we had of him were that he impacted each contest he needed to, and just played his role. He is a no-fuss defender who does have that touch of class and able to execute well by hand or foot. He is not a huge accumulator of the football and could improve his offensive drive – or use his class more often – but he just does everything required of him and is a coach’s perfect type of player.
