SUMMARY: Stephen Cumming is an ex-basketballer who focused on the Stingrays this year and became a regular in the line-up. He switched between ruck and forward, with his brother Matthew often holding down key position places at either end, but more so in defence. Stephen is a strong contested mark, good in the contest one-on-one and constantly provides a lead or form of support for his onball brigade or small forwards. He is not the most athletic player despite coming from basketball, as he is 199cm and 104kg, but his versatility allows him to slot into any key position role. Like many lumbering talls, he does not find a heap of the football, and his consistency can waiver at times, but he is hard to beat once he plants his feet and can get into position. Despite physically built to withstand senior football, Cumming would be viewed as a long-term prospect as he continues to learn his craft.
