STRENGTHS: Versatility, overhead marking, spread, work rate
IMPROVEMENTS: Contested work, Kicking consistency
Jacob Atley is the brother of North Melbourne’s Shaun, and Port Adelaide’s Joe, and has similar traits to his siblings with his overhead marking and versatility. He is able to slot into practically any role on the field, and spreads well, often coming off half-back to deliver the ball up the wing. At times his consistency by foot could be improved, particularly when not afforded time and space out of the back half, while he could also build on his contested work. However, he has the capability to do damage to the opposition out of the back half, and showed in the Wildcard Round at Ikon Park, that he can slot into the forward line as well. His strength overhead allows him to take plenty of marks, and his work rate to find space inside 50 is very good.
