Charlotte Mullins is a classy operator who best displays her skill and footy nous on the outside, roaming well between the arcs and setting up plays from down the ground. She has a natural inside component to her game as well, though not quite as composed or efficient in there, she can impact games around the clearances, and overall has a lot of upside for the future.

>> CHARLOTTE MULLINS FEATURE

Charlotte Mullins is a classy member of the Brisbane Lions Academy who has been able to play a variety of roles over the past couple of years. She can play inside, outside or on flanks at either end, showcasing her footy knowledge. She possesses a number of terrific footballing traits, and while there are some improvements still to make, she is a player with great upside for the future.

Mullins plays her best footy on the outside when she has time and space. She has that touch of class and ability to deliver cleanly to teammates through nice vision and good decision making. The only caveat to her disposal is under pressure, where she has less time and is not able to utilise the ball as cleanly as on the outside. Her efficiency can drop off, but that is to be expected, and as she showed at the national carnival, she can easily slide to the outside or even defence and provide a reliable kicking option in transition.

As a midfielder Mullins is not one to often hit the scoreboard, which is another string she can add to her bow, mainly because she is often the first or second possession winner and then quickly kicks it forward from congestion. When she has played as a forward in past years, Mullins can hit the scoreboard, but adding that element as a midfielder is always a way she can improve.

Mullins is not afraid to get her hands dirty, and laid seven tackles in the NAB League Girls game against Western Jets, emphasising her willingness to go in and attack the hard ball and opponent. Depending on where an AFLW club - such as Brisbane - might utilise her, she will add enough accountability to her offensive impact that she can always play off half-back or a wing if required. That ‘Jane of all trades’ ability is something that is crucial at AFLW level, and Mullins’ versatility in her role and traits are clear.

FUN FACT:

Charlotte Mullins was one of only four draft combine players to record double-digit gathers during the AFLW Under 18 Championships, with 11. Additionally three of the four were Queenslanders – Mullins, Jasmyn Smith and Alana Gee.
