SNAPSHOT:

Annabel Kievit is perhaps one of the lesser known AFLW Draft Combine invites, having not played through the Talent League or AFLW Under 18 Championships this year. However, with outstanding athleticism and an ability to impress in the air and across the ground, the Northern Territory talent has long been one to watch.

STRENGTHS:

+ Athleticism
+ Versatility
+ Upside
+ Kicking penetration
+ Aerial ability
+ Forward craft

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Raw
- Limited exposure

PROFILE:

Even as an Under 16s talent, it was evident that Waratah young gun Kievit was a player with great potential. She has built a decorated NTFL Women's Premier League junior career, winning the Rising Star award long been a player to watch from the Top End. In 2021, Kievit ran out for the Gold Coast Suns in the Under 17 Championships, and though having not featured for them since then, the Territory talent still earned an AFLW Draft Combine invite.

From an NTFL Women's perspective, Kievit played Under 18s level during the 2020/21 season, booting three goals in nine games, before only adding one more the following season having played seniors throughout the year. There, she kicked 12 goals in 13 games, named in the best nine times and earned the Rising Star Award. In 2022/23, Kievit booted a further 19 goals in 13 games, making it 31 goals in 26 games at senior level.

The only other representative games she played over the past two seasons saw two matches at the AFLW Under 16 Championships for Team Ponter where she starred in game two booting three goals in a best on ground performance, and one against Murray Bushrangers in March, 2022.

From an on-field perspective, Kievit is a super athlete who can leap high, run fast and evade would-be tacklers. For a slightly undersized tall who has played a combination of forward and ruck, Kievit has all the raw foundations to be a very good player long-term. Though playing as an undersized tall in the NTFL Women's is not unheard of, Kievit's athleticism and kicking penetration really sets her aside.

She is a long kick who also competes in aerial contests, and with some clever forward craft, knows where the big sticks are. The concern might be on her limited exposure at elite levels, having clearly been a star through the NTFL, but has seldom ventured outside that. Still, the Waratah young gun has traits that have attracted AFLW clubs, earning her the AFLW Draft Combine invite.

At 176cm, Kievit will likely be projected as a tall forward at the top level, not quite key position, but one who has the athletic potential to play taller than she is. Boasting good hands aerially, and capable of matching smaller players at ground level with her speed, Kievit screams raw potential.

If drafted, going forward, Kievit will look to develop more of her fundamentals and adapt to the higher level of football. Viewed as a long-term tall, the Northern Territory junior will be inextricably linked to the Gold Coast Suns given the ties to the Top End, with the club no doubt having kept a close eye on her development over the last few seasons.

SUMMARY:

Annabel Kievit is a raw, but talented forward who has been one to watch coming through the Northern Territory. She was a standout as a bottom-ager and younger through the Under 16 Championships, and despite not playing a great deal of footy outside her home state, earned an AFLW Draft Combine invite thanks to her natural talent and developable traits.
