NAB League Girls Player of the Week: Round 1

THERE were plenty of standout players in the first round of NAB League Girls action, but the one that stood out the most as an individual across the six games, was Calder Cannons’ Georgie Prespakis. It is a remarkable effort for the exciting midfielder, who became the youngest player to be named Draft Cental NAB League Girls’ Player of the Week.

While there is still much development to come in Prespakis, the signs she showed in Round 1 were very impressive, named best afield and was a key reason why the Cannons recorded a solid victory. She seemed to be everywhere, capping off her performance with a second quarter goal, and narrowly missing another.

#41 Georgie Prespakis notes vs. Western Jets

The standout best on ground, it is hard to believe Prespakis is yet to turn 16 years of age. Much like her sister Madison, some of the things she does cannot be ignored. The way she positions herself at stoppages and moves through traffic is a highlight and she has a booming kick that is used to put opposition defenders under pressure by penetrating deep inside 50. Prespakis moves well and has good composure and made what was one of the goals of the day look simple. She won the ball, turned, shrugged off an opponent and snapped one home. She is a natural kick of the football and also worked back defensively to take an uncontested mark in defence later in the game. Prespakis had a chance for a second goal but missed to the left.
