Nanscawen claims Lambert-Pearce Medal, Dean the latest Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medallist
ESSENDON captain Georgia Nanscawen is the toast of the VFLW tonight, after winning the Lambert-Pearce Medal as the Best and Fairest of the VFLW for 2021.
She finished on 17 votes, three votes clear of Collingwood skipper Caitlin Bunker, who finished second. Hawthorn’s Tamara Luke finished third on 11 votes, and there was a four way tie for fourth on nine votes – Collingwood’s Amelia Velardo, Meagan Kiely from North and Geelong’s Olivia Barber and Claudia Gunjaca.
Nanscawen was dominant for the Bombers this year, with an average of 23.5 disposals a game and 10.5 tackles a match.
The Lambert-Pearce Medal was not Nanscawen’s only award for the evening, after she was also named captain of the VFLW Team of the Year.
There were a number of other VFLW awards awarded tonight.
The Rohenna Young Medal for the VFLW’s leading goal kicker was awarded to Collingwood’s Imogen Barnett, who kicked 21 goals in 2021.
The Debbie Lee Medal for the best young player in the VFLW was awarded to Casey’s Eliza West.

It was also the VFL Awards night tonight, and although there was no J.J Liston trophy awarded due to the uneven number of games each side played this season, there were still plenty of other awards awarded.
The Frosty Miller Medallist for the VFL’s leading goal kicker went to Aspley’s Matt Hammelmann, who kicked 42 goals this season.
The Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medallist for the best young talent in the VFL was awarded this year to Charlie Dean from Williamstown. Dean averaged 15.1 disposals and 7.3 marks showing the traits he did as a Sandringham Dragons tall, being a key player in the air and staking his case to make it onto an AFL list.

There were also two life members inducted tonight – Werribee’s Mark Penaluna and Williamstown’s Nick Meese.
Volunteers across both leagues were also recognised tonight. The Ann Rulton Award for the VFLW Volunteer of the year was Mark Lanham from Essendon, while the Alex Gillon Award for the VFL Volunteer of the Year was awarded to John Davis from Frankston.
