Molloy leads talented #22Under22 AFLW side as Patrikios is named Best First Year Player

COLLINGWOOD 2018 AFL Women’s Rising Star talent, Chloe Molloy has been announced as captain of the 2020 AFL Women’s #22Under22 Team which was announced this morning. The 2019 Rising Star, Madison Prespakis was named vice-captain in the side, one of three Blues in the team – the most represented side. Of the 14 teams, 13 are represented in the squad, with Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, Gold Coast, Melbourne, St Kilda and Western Bulldogs all having two players.

Despite their first season being cut short, it did not stop the likes of Gabby Newton, Georgia Patrikios, Roxanne Roux and Caitlin Greiser making the side off limited games. Inaugural Rising Star, Ebony Marinoff joined Molloy and Prespakis as other Rising Stars to earn selection. Patrikios added another accolade to her trophy cabinet today, being named Best First Year Player for 2020.

As well as the Rising Stars, the past three number one picks were also named in the side with Isabel Huntington, Nina Morrison and Newton all making the team. Also among the squad is a raft of talented talls, with Sarah Allen, Eden Zanker and Jesse Wardlaw on the bench, joined by North Melbourne’s Jasmine Grierson and Brisbane’s Sophie Conway in the six-player interchange.

There are also a number of players who have already represented two different sides in their careers, with former Western Bulldogs Monique Conti (Richmond) and Libby Birch (Melbourne), as well as former Lions-turned-Suns Lauren Bella and Kalinda Howarth all named.

Rounding out the remainder of the side are a trio of second year players, Charlotte Wilson, Alyce Parker and Sabreena Duffy, while pocket rocket Georgia Gee earned a spot in the action-packed forward line.
