Weekend wash up: NTFL Women’s – Round 5

LAST weekend, we saw the first game of the year washed out due to weather conditions, Waratah and St Marys have received two premiership points each, with Waratah sitting comfortably on top of the ladder. Elsewhere, the Southern Districts bounced back against the Wanderers to win by 33 points, the Darwin Buffettes showed Nightcliff the horns, and Pint toppled Tracy Village to sit in third place.

The Wanderers: P. Glover

The Southern Districts had the opportunities up forward to put away the Wanderers early, but failed to convert. However, after half-time, the Crocs grabbed the Wanderers by the throat and never let go. Tayla Thorn returned up forward to combine with spearhead, Charles Deegan, with both players kicking two majors a piece. Thorn’s Thunder teammate, Tahlia Holtze has managed to hit the scoreboard for the second week in a row. The Southern Districts will look to improve their goal kicking as they try to peek back into top four contention. As for the Wanderers, another week of poor football as they continue the search for their first win of the season.

For the first quarter, Nightcliff was holding firm against Darwin with only one point the difference. Unfortunately when the second quarter started, the Tigers were in for a nightmare. Buffettes guns, Machaelia Roberts, Meredith Turner, and Bianca Stokes dominated, which saw Darwin walk away 91-point victors. Roberts is now ranked second in the competition for goals with Turner trailing behind her at third. The Buffettes continue to steamroll yet another team, as Nightcliff fell again in another poor week.

PINT 1.2 I 2.3 I 4.4 I 7.6 (48)
TRACY VILLAGE 0.4 I 1.8 I 1.11 I 1.12 (18)

GOALS:

Pint: D. Suddaby 2, E. Ryan 2, K. Smits 2, J. McFee.
Tracy Village: A. Gray.

BEST:

Tracy Village: L. Douglas, K. Lansdown, A. Gray, K. Brown, S. Bailie-mace, T. Eagle

In a surprising twist, the Queen Ants have held the Razorbacks to one goal. Tracy Village was peppering the goals all day, but its inaccuracy proved costly as Pint forwards  Danielle Suddaby, Ellie Ryan, and Kristen Smits kicked truly with six goals between them. The Razorbacks have had a very consistent season so far, but last weekend they learned the true meaning of bad kicking is bad football. Pint on the other hand, has crawled into third spot and is looking very dangerous.
