Weekend wash-up: NTFL Women’s – Round 4

IN Round 4 of the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Women’s, Waratah continued to show its dominance, Tracy Village shot up to second place, while the Darwin Buffettes continued to display some good form. However, there was one upset that saw the Palmerston Magpies get their second win of the season.

WARATAH 2.3 | 7.5 | 9.6 | 14.8 (92)
WANDERERS 0.2 | 1.2 | 1.2 | 1.2 (8)

Another day, another complete annihilation for Waratah. The Wanderers had no answers for a forward line that has been decimating defences week after week. Lisa Miceli followed up on last week with another bag of goals, while Sue Nalder kicked three of her own. Lisa Roberts commands a strong back line that seem to rebound every ball that enters her defensive 50, making for a very strong Warriors line-up both offensively and defensively. This defence holds up week after week, as the Wanderers only managed one goal for the game. The Warriors’ percentage is now at 887% as they continue their surge to win back-to-back premierships.

GOALS:

Waratah: L. Miceli 5, S. Nalder 3, A. Chittick 3, J. Kerinaiua, C. Puruntatameri S. Puruntatameri.
Wanderers:  M. Chisolm Derschow.

DARWIN BUFFETTES 6.2 | 10.3 | 11.3 | 14.5 (89)
ST MARYS 1.0 | 1.0 | 3.1 | 3.1 (19)

It was another tough day at the office for the Saints, as the Buffettes assembled a stampede that St Marys could not defend. Machaelia Roberts showed the St Marys defence how dangerous she is by kicking five for the day. On the other side of the coin, Katherine Dann tried her best to pull the Saints out of the trenches by kicking two goals. Unfortunately from there, the Buffettes flexed their muscles. Celina Whan and Meredith Turner added even more damage to the scoreboard, handing St Marys another big loss.

Darwin Buffettes:  M. Roberts 5, M. Turner 3, M. Taylor 2,  K. Duggan, C. Whan, B. Stokes, J. Anderson.
St Marys:  K. Dann 2, E. Casey.

PALMERSTON MAGPIES 2.0 | 6.3 | 7.6 | 8.7 (55)
SOUTHERN DISTRICTS 2.1 | 4.3 | 5.5 | 6.8 (44)

After a poor game last week, the Magpies have struck back by beating an in-form Crocs outfit by 11 points. This was the upset of the round, as Northern Territory Under 18 representatives, Janet Baird, and Tabitha May helped Palmerston achieve a well-fought victory. It was a close match, but the leaders of the Crocs didn’t stand up. Tahlia Holtze and Teka Voysey hit the scoreboard, but the rest of their forward line was completely nullified. The Crocs will need to bounce back next round to prove they are a contender for the flag.

GOALS:

Palmerston Magpies: J. Stassi 2, M. Brown 2, J . Baird 2, F. Puruntatameri, S. Bush.
Southern Districts: T. Voysey 2, T. Holtze, B. Clarke, C. Deegan, K. Patterson.

TRACY VILLAGE 7.2 | 9.5 | 14.10 | 16.11 (107)
NIGHTCLIFF 1.0 | 1.0 | 1.0 | 2.0 (12)

The Razorbacks have been sneaking around at fourth place for some time, but now thanks to a poor Tigers outfit, they sit second on the ladder. Nightcliff would put up little resistance as forwards, Jeanine Cook and Rachael Bull kicked eight goals between them for Tracy Village. They were complemented by NT Thunder’s Kristy Irvine, who played in the midfield but pushed forward to boot three of her own. Nightcliff’s efforts are getting even more disappointing each week, so hopefully the Tigers can mount something together in the coming weeks to get off the bottom of the ladder.

GOALS:

Tracy Village: J. Cook 4, R. Bull 4, K. Irvine 3, K. Barnes 2, M. McCartney 2, C. Fitzgerald.

Tracy Village: K. Lansdown, Z. Clarke, K. Irvine, J. Cook, M. McCartney, A. Lidbetter
