Weekly wrap: TSL Women’s – Preliminary Final

GLENORCHY has won through to the Grand Final against Clarence this week after a win over Launceston in the preliminary final. The Magpies had their work cut out for them in the finals series, missing the opportunity to have a week off after a loss to Clarence in the first week of finals. Now the minor premiers have rightfully won the right to get revenge on the Roos next week in the decider.

Both teams started off slow in the tight tussle, with Glenorchy having the upper hand by just six points at the first break. The Magpies had a promising second quarter by keeping Launceston scoreless, but were unable to put some damage on the scoreboard. Their inaccuracy resulted in 2.7 for the quarter to obtain a 17-point lead at half-time. The Blues fought back in the third term, outscoring Glenorchy two goals to one to reduce the margin to 10 points. But the Magpies put the foot down in the last quarter, kicking three goals to one to secure a Grand Final berth, courtesy of a 21-point win against the Blues.

Everyone chipped in inside 50 with single goal kickers all round for Glenorchy. Sarah Skinner, Sandy Eaton, Nietta Lynch, Jasmine Tate Turvey, Macklyn Sutcliffe and Meg Jacobs were the ones who got on the board for the Magpies. The Barwick girls were named best-on-ground and second best-on-ground with Elise taking the honours over Brieanna. Gemma Allan, Jade Williams, Zabreena Manjerovic and goal kicker, Lynch rounded out Glenorchy’s best. It was also single goal kickers all round for the Blues with Camilla Taylor, Dearne Taylor and Emma Manix-Geeves getting solitary majors on the board. Nicole Ristrom was best afield for Launceston while Meg Sinclair, Hayley Whyte, Chanette Thuringer, Ashlee Carey and goal kicker, Camilla Taylor also chipped in with solid performances.
